Job Overview

As a mountain bike instructor at Outdoor Norway you will be taking clients of differing abilities on a variety of terrain. You are expected to be an experienced rider, confident in all areas of riding, comfortable on steep, technical terrain and have basic bike maintenance skills. You must be flexible and adaptable to suit individual needs and abilities and be physically fit and able to ride for 6hours a day.

Candidates must have excellent leadership and group management skills and be capable of  planning, organising and delivering mountain bike tours including the logistical side of the trip. Our mountain bike trips run regardless of the weather so you must be prepared to ride rain or shine. We are looking for mountain bike instructors with continued enthusiasm and dedication.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • First and foremost, uphold our mission: “We create great memories for our guests”
  • Ensure the trip is run in a safe and in a timely manner
  • Be responsible and capable of  maintaining the bikes keeping them in good working order
  • Properly keep bike maintenance logs
  • Have the ability to effectively troubleshoot and fix problems that arise with guest bikes out on the trail
  • Engage with guests and be attentive to their needs
  • Provide some basic mountain bike instruction working on skills and technique
  • Be able to understand and read weather reports ,monitor weather conditions and act accordingly
  • Must be able to lift, load and unload bikes from a trailer regularly throughout the day

  • Mountain Bike Guide Qualification (e.g PMBIA, MBLA, Level 1 etc)
  • Current first-aid certification including CPR  (minimum 16 hours course)
  • Full clean drivers license with the ability to drive passengers and with a trailer
  • Must have excellent spoken and written English skills

PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WITH THE FOLLOWING

  • Wilderness First Aid and Wilderness First Responder
  • A degree or equivalent in Outdoor Recreation
  • At least three years experience working in the outdoors and adventure tourism industries
  • Have experience guiding/leading other outdoor activities such as sea kayaking, hiking, SUP and river guiding (kayaking, rafting)
  • Basic Norwegian language as well as any other additional language skills

JOB OVERVIEW

This role will require you to safely deliver Sea Kayaking tours on the Fjords as well as guided river trips on up to Grade 3 whitewater.  Under limited supervision, you must be able to work independently using your own initiative.

This person must have strong interpersonal skills, be able to deliver high levels of customer service, have great group management skills, be a strong critical thinker and have the ability to problem solve. You will need to  flexible and adaptable in tailoring trips to suit individual needs, abilities and expectations.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • First and foremost, uphold our mission “Create great memories for our guests”
  • Ensure trips are run in a safe and timely manner
  • Clean and maintain all kayaks and relevant equipment
  • Ensure that vehicles are cleaned and fuelled as required
  • Engage with guests and be attentive to their needs
  • Must be able to lift, load and unload kayaks from a trailer
  • To deliver informative trips educating guests about the local culture and history

  • Current first-aid certification including CPR  (minimum 16 hours course)
  • Full clean drivers license with the ability to drive passengers and with a trailer
  • Must have excellent spoken and written English skills

PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WITH THE FOLLOWING

  • Wilderness First Aid and Wilderness First Responder
  • Whitewater Rescue Technician Certification

JOB OVERVIEW

DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ATTRIBUTES:

  • First and foremost, uphold our tour mission; “Create great memories for our guests”
  • Ensure trips are run in a safe and timely manner
  • Organise and assemble equipment required for each trip ie. mountain bikes, kayaks, canoes, standup paddle-boards, helmets and other gear as needed to guests
  • Assist senior guides where necessary
  • Guide commercial tour groups on Class I an II whitewater rivers
  • Enforce safety rules and regulations on and off the river
  • Provide a high level of service to clients on and off the river
  • Provide equipment maintenance
  • Maintain a clean and organised work space at the Outdoor Norway base and storage room
  • Be reliable, self-motivated, enthusiastic with good communication skills and the ability to talk with people from different cultures and backgrounds;
  • Have a  strong interest in learning and educating clients about the local culture and history
  • Be physically fit and happy to be outdoors all day in all weather conditions

Our Outdoor Recreation Reservations department helps hundreds of customers from all over the world plan memorable outdoor experiences.

Our Reservation Coordinators are true adventure experts. Their knowledge and experience help guide customers through the booking process over the phone or through email. They are able to answer in-depth questions about our tours and liaise with our operations team to ensure every customer has a positive experience, from the moment they first contact us to the day of their adventure.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Inbound and outbound sales over the phone, online, via email and in person
  • Provide outstanding customer service and handle all customer queries
  • Book adventures, take payments and correspond with customers
  • Manage reseller relationships, build contacts and maintain relationships with stakeholders
  • Develop positive relationships with customers and manage feedback effectively
  • Help support marketing and promotions to drive sales throughout the season
  • Greet clients and assist with the check-in process

  • Communicating changes to client numbers to the operational team in a timely manner
  • Prep audio-video equipment at the return of the trip
  • Handle and edit photo and video material for sales and promotion
  • Assist with online and social media marketing efforts
  • Assist with scheduling and logistics as bookings are received
  • Understand and assist in emergency protocols

Qualifications:

• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Norwegian language skills are a strong asset

• Outstanding sales and customer service skills

• Outgoing, confident fun personality with strong people skills

• Excellent time management, planning and organizational skills

• Ability to multi-task and maintain strong attention to detail

• Ability to work in a fast paced, high pressured environment

• Patient, understanding and ability to deal with customer concerns

• Fully computer literate with knowledge of Pages and Numbers (same as MS Word and Excel)

• Knowledge of social media is considered an asset

Work Schedule: Our reservations office is open from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Sunday, with extended hours until 6:00 pm in peak season. Training will begin early May (flexible) and candidates must be able to work weekends. Hours will vary month to month (part-time hours offered in May, September and October /full-time hours offered during June, July, and August).
