Operational Manager

JOB OVERVIEW

To help maintain and grow the success of Outdoor Norway, we’re seeking an experienced operations manager to oversee daily activities. The Operations Manager is a key leadership position with a critical role in the fulfillment of the Outdoor Norway brand promise of delivering high-quality experiences. The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the day to day functions of the operation.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Pre-season preparation of the business’ operational department

• Pre-season preparation of contingency and emergency plans

• Identify and delegate the needs of each rafting trip to river guides and trip leaders

• Provide risk assessment of technical procedures

• Organize and assemble equipment required for each trip

• Provide Trip Leader supervision and management

• Ensure a high level of service standard is met by all staff both on and off the water

• Client liaison — to liaise with clients and provide feedback to help marketing efforts

• Delivering outstanding customer service to ensure client satisfaction

• Making bookings and coordinating client programs

• Managing operational compliance
Maintaining operational documentation, records and finances

• Assisting with staff training and mentoring

• Assisting with compliance and risk management

• Managing successful journey-based adventure programs

• Leading the team and overseeing all logistics, activities and rentals as well as overseeing program rationale, safety and the total wellbeing of all client participants.

• Undertake office-based program planning, management and assessment

• Act as a Outdoor Norway representative by fostering a high standard of professionalism in every function and task

• Understand and role model company policy and standards in every aspect of functions and tasks

• Assist the management team in the development of new products and methods

• Identify inefficiencies and help develop sound alternatives

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

To be successful in this position, it is essential that you have: 

• A passion for outdoor education and providing outstanding customer experiences

• Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to create strong relationships with staff and clients

• Proven leadership/management experience, including the ability to multi task and look bigger picture

• Strong sense of initiative and capacity to work with minimal guidance and supervision

• Able to maintain thorough attention to detail while working under pressure

• A solutions-based mindset

• Exceptional written communication and presentation skills
Previous experiences in operations or logistics advantageous

• Experience in managing field-based programs and teams advantageous

• A proven record in activity and program safety, remote area first aid, emergency responses and risk management advantageous

• Program planning and management experience advantageous

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• 4 year degree in Operations Management, Recreation Management, or another related field

• 3+ years of relevant management experience in operations

• Must hold a Trip Leaders rafting license (or equivalent) for a minimum of two active season

• Must hold current Swift-water Rescue Training level 3 or equivalent

• Must hold current 40-hour or higher, Wilderness First Aid or Occupational First Aid certification or equivalent

• Must be able to conceptualize planning objectives and communicate needs

• Strong communication skills are a must

• Thorough, on the spot decision making in a fast-paced environment is a necessary skill

• Thorough understanding of commercial river rafting standards

• Computer literate

• Actively engaged in the enjoyment of outdoor adventures

• Prior experience working in the outdoor industry

• Able to communicate clearly and effectively

• Organized, enthusiastic, and flexible

Photo and Video Production Assistant

Start date: May 2024
Contract timespan: full-time seasonal position, May – 30th September, the option to continue part-time
Compensation: Hourly wage based on experience

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Marketing Team to ensure that your visual content aligns with our marketing strategy
Capture High-Quality Visual Content to showcase our offering and brand both in photos and videos
Equipment Maintenance to ensure optimal performance and longevity
Social Media and Website Management by providing visually captivating content that engages our audience and drives traffic
Content Production and Editing to create compelling stories that evoke emotions, inspire adventure, and showcase the natural wonders of Norway
Front desk assisting During the peak season we are busy at our Basecamp, where we might need someone to sit at the front desk for short periods of time. However, this responsibility will be very limited since your visual capabilities are where our aspirations are.

Reservation Coordinator

Our Outdoor Recreation Reservations department helps hundreds of customers from all over the world plan memorable outdoor experiences.

Our Reservation Coordinators are true adventure experts. Their knowledge and experience help guide customers through the booking process over the phone or through email. They are able to answer in-depth questions about our tours and liaise with our operations team to ensure every customer has a positive experience, from the moment they first contact us to the day of their adventure.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Inbound and outbound sales online, via email and in person at frontdesk.
  • Provide outstanding customer service and handle all customer queries
  • Book adventures, take payments and correspond with customers
  • Manage reseller relationships, build contacts and maintain relationships with stakeholders
  • Develop positive relationships with customers and manage feedback effectively
  • Help support marketing and promotions to drive sales throughout the season
  • Greet clients and assist with the check-in process
  • Provide instructions for rental equipment (MTB, Sea Kayaking and Standup-paddle-boarding). ⇒ Click here for infos about  our rental products
  • Communicating changes to client numbers to the operational team in a timely manner
  • Prep audio-video equipment at the return of the trip
  • Handle and edit photo and video material for sales and promotion
  • Assist with online and social media marketing efforts
  • Assist with scheduling and logistics as bookings are received
  • Understand and assist in emergency protocols

Qualifications:

• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Norwegian language skills are a strong asset

• Outstanding sales and customer service skills

• Outgoing, confident fun personality with strong people skills

• Excellent time management, planning and organizational skills

• Ability to multi-task and maintain strong attention to detail

• Ability to work in a fast paced, high pressured environment

• Patient, understanding and ability to deal with customer concerns

• Fully computer literate with knowledge of Pages and Numbers (same as MS Word and Excel)

• Knowledge of social media is considered an asset

• Knowledge of video editing is considered an asset

EXTRA QUALIFICATIONS

The qualification bellow are a strong advantage for the candidate:

Work Schedule: Our reservations office is open from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Sunday, with extended hours in peak season, from 9am to 6pm. Training time is flexible and shall take 2 days. Candidates must be able to work weekends. Hours will vary month to month (part-time hours offered in September and October /full-time hours offered during July, and August).
