When does your season start and end, and what is the best time of year to go river tandem kayaking?

We kick off our river tandem kayaking season once the river is free of ice, continuing until the snow starts to fall! Typically, this runs from early May to late October, but it's all in the hands of Mother Nature! You can find our current opening dates and times on our webpage.

The ideal time for river tandem kayaking varies based on the river's conditions:

The rivers typically fluctuate from May to October. High water levels usually occur from May to mid-July, coinciding with the snow-melting season. This period offers exhilarating rapids, especially for avid river enthusiasts.

However, the Raundal Canyon boasts breathtaking scenery throughout the entire summer. Since the Raundal River isn't dam-controlled, water levels vary, ensuring an excellent experience throughout the season. So, whether it's the thrill of powerful rapids or the beauty of the canyon, any time during the season is a great choice for river tandem kayaking.
