TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

  • Vosso salmon is one of the most famous big salmon populations in the country and is in class by itself even at a global level when it comes to Atlantic salmon.
  • Bolstadfjorden lies in both Vaksdaland Voss. Two of the straits is only 100 meters wide. At the mouth of a 7,000 year old settlement, Skipshelleren.
  • The Voss River was formerly known as a major salmon river, known for the famous Voss salmon and was much used, among other things, of the English salmon lords. Now a sea trout fishery of the greatest importance. There is ongoing work to accrue salmon stocks again, where the famous Vosso salmon is key.

Regarding weather conditions:
Whitewater rafting is fantastic whether it's sunny or rainy!

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO GO SUP-BOARDING?

The ideal time for SUP-boarding varies based on the river's conditions:

The rivers typically fluctuate from May to October. High water levels occur usually from June to mid-July, coinciding with the snow melting season. This period offers stronger rapids, especially for avid river enthusiasts.

Since the river isn't dam-controlled, water levels vary, ensuring an excellent experience throughout the season. So, whether it's the thrill of powerful rapids or the beauty of the crystal clear waters of the river Voss, any time during the season is a great choice for SUP-boarding.

DO I NEED PRIOR EXPERIENCE TO GO SUP-BOARDING?

No, you do not need any prior experience at all.

SUP-boarding is a suitable acitivity for beginners and seasoned hobbyists alike, as you can moderate the challenge by sitting on the board, stand on your knees, or standing upright on the board. It can be a style competition, but it does not have to be; just have fun!

Furthermore, each tour includes a dedicated guide who will be with you throughout. We offer an introduction to your activity, covering paddle techniques, and ensuring you're familiar with all safety procedures before you begin.

DO WE NEED TO BE PHYSICALLY FIT TO GO SUP-BOARDING?

Yes, we suggest that all participants in our SUP-boarding experiences have good physical health.

If you have any medical concerns but still wish to go river canoeing, we always advise consulting with your doctor beforehand.

WILL I FALL OFF THE SUP? WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I DO FALL?

It's very common to fall into the water from your SUP-board. Before you go on any trip, you’ll be given extensive instructions on what to do if you fall in, and how to get back to your board and climb back on. Follow your guide’s instructions, and your 'swim' could be the most exciting part of your trip and a great story to tell your friends afterwards!

SHOULD I TIP MY GUIDE?

Tipping isn't customary in Norway, as it is e.g. in the USA. Our guides put in considerable effort to ensure your experience is both enjoyable and safe, maintaining the high standards set by Outdoor Norway.

While tipping is recognized as a standard practice in the industry and is always welcomed, it's never an obligation. It's entirely up to your discretion whether you choose to leave a tip. Your appreciation for the service provided is greatly valued either way.

CAN I LEAVE MY BAG/LUGGAGE AT THE BASE?

Yes absolutely, that's not an issue at all.

We have shelves available for storing your belongings while you're out on a tour. Rest assured, there's always a member of our staff present at the base, so your items will be securely looked after— nothing goes missing on our watch!

DO I NEED TO SIGN A WAIVER?

Yes.

Upon joining any activity, a waiver acknowledging risks must be read and signed. For minors, a parent or guardian is required to sign the waiver.
