MOUNTAIN BIKE – The Grand Traverse

To get where no others go, we need to climb a gravel road and then push our bikes until we reach the north ridge. As we ride across the mountain ridge, amazing views unfold. We can spot the three valleys of the mountainsides and the Lønahorgi Peak at the west. The views along this route are simply gorgeous and this is one of the rewards riding the Grande Traverse Mountain Bike route in Voss.

Details About the Mountain Bike GRANDE TRAVERSE TOUR

Explore on Two Wheels

Our shuttle service will take us to Opheim Lake, and this ride will take you where others haven’t ventured!  We start at 337 masl. with easy climbing on the gravel road, and it gets steeper as we progress. At 647 masl. into the singletrack, only the most skilled and fit riders will be able to stay on the saddle, while others will push their bikes to the north ridge, unveiling unparalleled views along the way. From this vantage point, you’ll witness the majestic three valleys of the mountainsides and the awe-inspiring Lønahorgi Peak to the west.

We stop at Skorseteggi Peak at 972 masl. to take a break and enjoy our delicious snack and the natural surroundings.

Descending the south side ridge, get ready for an exhilarating ride that weaves through rough terrain, challenging rock gardens, and sections with rocks and roots that demand mastery of your skills. Our seasoned local guides will lead you on your quest to conquer this majestic mountain.

This beautiful route is perfect for those who are in good shape and used to challenging rides. The Grand Traverse is technically a complete loop, starting in town, involving many kilometres of the paved road by shuttle van and returning by biking all the way back to town.

STILL HAVE QUESTIONS?

FAQ

CAN I USE MY OWN GEAR, SUCH AS HELMET, PEDALS OR GLOVES?

Yes, absolutely!

Our mountain bikes are equipped with standard flat pedals featuring pins. However, we also offer clip-in SPD and Crankbrothers pedals for those who prefer using clip-in shoes.

If you wish to utilize your own pedals and/or saddle, kindly bring them along, and upon your arrival, we'll happily replace them for you.

To ensure we accommodate your preferences smoothly, please notify us in advance by replying to your booking confirmation email. This way, we can prepare accordingly for your visit.

WHEN DOES THE MOUNTAIN BIKE SEASON START AND END IN VOSS?

Our biking adventures kick off once the snow line exceeds 500 meters above sea level and continue until the snowfall begins again. Typically, this window spans from early April through late December, dictated by Mother Nature's whims. Our primary season runs from May to October.

If your plans fall outside this period, we recommend contacting us well in advance, as we might be exploring biking routes beyond Voss Municipality for several days or weeks.

IS THE BIKE INCLUDED IN THE TOUR PACKAGE?

Yes it is! The mountain bike is included, saving you the hassle of bringing your own bike across continents. ;)

SHOULD I TIP MY GUIDE?

Tipping isn't customary in Norway, as it is e.g. in the USA. Our guides put in considerable effort to ensure your experience is both enjoyable and safe, maintaining the high standards set by Outdoor Norway.

While tipping is recognized as a standard practice in the industry and is always welcomed, it's never an obligation. It's entirely up to your discretion whether you choose to leave a tip. Your appreciation for the service provided is greatly valued either way.

HOW DIFFICULT IS THIS MOUNTAIN BIKE TOUR?

It's graded from skill levels 6 to 7, perfect for experienced riders.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING WITH ME ON A MOUNTAIN BIKE TOUR?
  • Clothing suitable for biking, focus on comfort
  • Thermal underwear (for colder conditions)
  • Own gloves (for comfort or warmth)
  • Wind stopper jacket or rain jacket (for windy or cold weather)
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Enough water for the tour

    Optional: Own pedals or saddle
CAN I LEAVE MY BAG/LUGGAGE AT THE BASE?

Yes absolutely, that's not an issue at all.

We have shelves available for storing your belongings while you're out on a tour. Rest assured, there's always a member of our staff present at the base, so your items will be securely looked after— nothing goes missing on our watch!

DO I NEED TO SIGN A WAIVER?

Yes.

Upon joining any activity, a waiver acknowledging risks must be read and signed. For minors, a parent or guardian is required to sign the waiver.
